Saint Pierre de Bessuéjouls - Aveyron

A SMALL CAROLINGIAN CHAPEL
Inside the present day bell-tower is a small Carolingian chapel, which is on the first floor, access to which is by means of a steep and narrow staircase. But it is worth the effort: as a miniature masterpiece awaits the visitor, both in terms of architectonic harmony, and by virtue of the elaborate sculptures which decorate both the capitals and the architraves, featuring a combination of archaic decorative motives of the Carolingian era as well as the classical motives of the Romanesque era.
