ALWAYS DIFFERENT BUT FAITHFUL TO ITSELF
The spread of Romanesque art over an extensive geographic area, involved many stylistic adaptations (there being a difference between the buildings of Normandy or Burgundy, between those of Lombardy and Tuscany; the Cistercian creations always being particular). However the distinctive Romanesque spirit continued. An important factor being that despite the large number of buildings in this style of both small and large dimensions, the architectural quality is constantly high. From the most modest chapels of the Alpine or Pyrenean areas, to the imposing abbeys or great town cathedrals, each building was treated and conceived as being important in its own right, each being a masterpiece which evokes great emotions, which even today, despite the passage of time, are still of high impact and inspirational value.
